FIRE TORNADOS!

FIRE TORNADOS!  I can't stop typing it in all caps. FIRE TORNADOS!  What do you mean FIRE TORNADOS?  I feel like someone who has loved peanut butter and chocolate forever & just tasted my first peanut butter cup.  WHAT DO YOU MEAN FIRE TORNADOS?  I've never heard of this.  I'm not kidding.

First of all let's start off with this amazing footage from filmmaker, Chris Tangey, near Alice Springs, Australia September 11th.

Below is a brief excerpt from www.dailymail.co.uk regarding this amazing experience:

A fire tornado, also know as a fire devil, is caused when a column of warm, rising air comes into contact - or causes - a fire on the ground.

These fire whirls are known to last for around two minutes on the very rare occasions they take place.  But Mr Tangey found himself mesmerized by the tornado for more than 40 minutes.  The 52-year-old said: 'The weather was perfectly still and it was about 25 degrees celsius - it was an entirely uneventful day.

'Then the next thing a man is yelling 'what the hell is that?' and I turned around and saw a 30-metre fire tornado.

'I was about 300-metres away and there was no wind but the tornado sounded like a fighter jet. My jaw just dropped.'
Mr Tangey, who runs Alice Springs Film and Television, in central Australia, described it as a 'once in ten lifetimes experience'.

Chris Tangey's Outback Fire Tornado!

I think this is an image taken from the video.

Apparently this year at Burning Man they experienced smoke devils as the men burned, below are a couple of pictures taken by the attendees.

Here's a video of the experience.  As someone who has experienced the "Burn" I can't imagine how great this would have been to see in real life.

I don't have a clue what this picture is from, but it is pretty outstanding!

Tornados/Storms

I love pictures of storms!  I know they are extremely dangerous but they are still amazing, beautiful and powerful.  All of these pictures I've had on my computer for years.  I tried to google their original source/photographer.  I was only able to find one.  If anyone accidentally finds their way to this blog & knows an original source please let me know!

My google search for sources of these pictures led me to my next blog "FIRE TORNADOS!"

Contact Paper Projects

I finally have internet again, so I thought I would give this "blog" another go!

I'm recently recovering from a Pinterest fixation on DIY and craft ideas.

This gorgeous DIY contact paper project found on www.apartmenttherapy.com

led me into my own contact paper project, transforming this:

to this:

Not having thought the project through & jumping in head first (as usual) I started with the vertical stripes on individual drawers & then tried to do the next one to match. Needless to say, that was a stupid way to go about it & after I spent so much time on it I was quite over the thought of starting over & decided to try horizontal for the second round.  Horizontal was much easier, faster, and uniform.  Now that I have the "hang" of the contact paper I decided I was ready to do something amazing!

I have always been a fan of patchwork & decided I needed to do a patchwork makeover on my front door.  This is the result:

Isn't it gorgeous?  What do you mean no?  You don't like the 1/2 finished look?  It took about 7-8 hours, can't remember, to finish up to this point and I haven't been able to force myself back into finishing.  Sigh, typical.
